ISONIC Ultrasonic Tool

Coast NDE has worked closely with a long-term client to jointly develop a Hard to Assess Procedure to inspect pipe within Concrete Vaults. This procedure has been developed and adopted in early 2007 and the project plan call for execution with large US based Pipeline Owner Operator starting in spring 2007. The procedure specifies that the air to wall and soil to wall interface will be assessed. Coast NDE technicians will utilize Visual and Short Range Guided Wave Ultrasonics (SRGWUT) to identify suspect areas and provide a prioritized remediation criterion.

Upon the detection of a suspect area, each area will be evaluated and potentially validated by excavation and reassessment of the Soil side of the interface and/or removing the vault wall. The assessments will be performed using Short Range Guided Wave Ultrasonics (ISONIC 2006 and 2001) with a Long Range Guided Wave and or EMAT UT as a back up technology.
