NDE Equipment
Coast NDE utilizes traditional Nondestructive Examination methods in their digsite inspection and assessment services.
Magnetic Particle methods including both Fluorescent, Black on White and in some cases Dry Powder. The process of utilizing an
electromagnetic yoke and sprinkling ferromagnetic particles to align within the crack like discontinuities. Liquid Penetrant methods
are utilized for our Plant and Mechanical Integrity clients. Visible and Fluorescent water washable or solvent removable methods are
the mostly commonly utilized and are particularly suited to nonmagnetic materials and works via capiliary action.
In addition, Coast Technicians utilize multiple traditional and advanced Ultrasonics methods such as Longitudinal Zero Degree
thickness, Laminar Scanning for laminations, mill scabs etc, corrosion mapping either for ID or OD corrosion utilizing regular zero
degree probes for ID and pencil probes for OD corrosion. Coast technicians employ several methods of Shear wave examination to detect
various internal and ID/OD surface breaking discontinuities such as SCC. Some of the more advanced methods of SCC or Crack sizing
performed by Coast technicians are traditional 6 dB drop, Tip Diffraction (utilizing regular shear wave and NSDS probes), TOFD,
ID/OD creeping wave, and phased array manual and automated.
